Mark it down... This will be the best ECU team since the 91 peach Bowl team...
ECU 4 Life
That is quite the prediction. I am not sure exactly what to expect this year but if we finish in the top 25 that will be quite the improvement from last season.
#4 Detric Allen, CB (28 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 3 PBU, 1 QBH) & Pee Dee
Sums it up.
"Life’s pretty good, and why wouldn’t it be? I’m a pirate, after all."
That's a tall order. I see us having a good team, but the 91 team IDK.
Flowery Branch, GA Pirate
The enthusiasm is great (and I like it) but that's a pretty darn bold statement after springball. I really want to know if you/we think we are going to unquestionably beat VT, the Smurfs, & the Wolfcubbies next year. That's what it will take to start approaching '91 team status in my little book coupled with no WTH losses in conference. IMHO of course....
I'll let ya know when the season is over.
I too have a gut feeling this will be a very special year, a historic type year.
Would not be surprised if we win 2 of 3 ACC matchups, lose 1 or 2 more of the others...if we finish 9-3, & win our bowl game to get to 10-3, when's the last time we had 10 wins? I would not be shocked if we went 10-2...that'd be our best yr since 91. Maybe it's too much purple haze...but I just got that feeling & most often my feelings are right or close, if I get a strong vibe...laugh away, but ya never know.
My adopt-a-Pirate, Lance Ray, LRay
Hell....right now I just want to see this team play consistently good enough ball to win week to week.
Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned here but....lets start by going 1-0 over ODU and take it one game a t a time. At seasons end... I would love to be reading about us arguing which team is better...'91 or this one.

I'd love to see us have an awesome year this year especially OOC. Nothing I love more than bragging rights to my friends at ACC schools. My real question is how well will we do in the AAC inaugural year? It would be sweet to knab one of those playoff spots.
It seems like we still have a fairly young team. How will we look for the 2014 season?? Stacked??
Agree can't have this conversation till the season is over we are all excited, but crowning a team after a controlled scrimmage can set you up for a let down...hope it is a discussion that we get to have.
Our defense has a long, long way to go for us to have a special team. If secondary doesn't improve, we will again be stuck btw 6-8 win range.
I really don't think anything we say on here has an impact on the season. We can look ahead all we want, the players can't.
Way too early to make that statement. I will say this team has the most returning talent since the team where Garrard, Henry, Pernell Griffin and others returned and ECU was in the preseason top 25. That team of course finished 6-6 if I remember correctly. Games aren't won on paper.
Whoa...now that's a reality check!
The damn offense only scored 2 touchdowns on the 1st 2nd and 3 rd teamers. If you don't think the defense has improved I don't know what else you want to see... Quite frankly I am more concerned that with all the talent on offense we only got 2 scores and a blocked kick... I am saying it one more time the secondary will be fine... We have an assload of athletes back there... The Dline is strong as hell (ask BWP) and the line backing corp is the best I have "ever" seen here...
Spring game means nothing. Lets see how we do when we line up against live bullets versus ODU. They will look to throw the ball all around. I am a doubter of this defense until they prove me otherwise. I have been following ECU Football very close for 20 plus years. Defense wins. Until we can stop people on 3rd down we will not beat the better teams we play.
I'm with you on the spring game. Not sure why so much is being put into it?
Well I've been watching ECU football for nearly 40 years .. Spring tells me what kind of talent we are putting on the field and it is only going to get better by the fall...
This is not a Brian Mitchell defense...Rick Smith is a thoroughbred compared to a ....... Any way it is night and day...All the doubting Thomas's will be shown when we start the season...
Going to be a Special Year...
Part of the disappointment of that season was the hype the fans gave them prior by declaring them so talented. The year before the 3 best defensive linemen, Claybrooks, Ahmadu, and Williams, plus a couple of defensive backs graduated along with a pretty good tight end, plus Keith Stokes off special teams. I didn't see them being as good as the 2000 team by a long shot, but they were declared our best ever team returning by many. That's why I'm cautious about pre-annointing a team.
Best team in ecu history, by far, was the HEALTHY 2008 team. 44 different starters used and we still won cusa. The teams against VT and WV were loaded
Agreed. Looking at what a bunch of mismatched starters and 2nd stringers did against each other doesnt tell me a whole lot.
Hell to the NO! The best team in ECU's history period was the 1983 team. Two bad calls and a dropped pass from 11-0. Lost 3 games, FSU, UF, and Miami (all away) by a combined 12 points. Best O-line and backfield in ECU history. The best returner in college that year and the all time best punt returner in CFL history.
Soccer is Cool!
It does tell plenty of people quite a bit. It is the very best look we as fans will get at the talent, depth and potential we have before this team takes the field against ODU.
Good luck Oracle. Optimism is frowned upon here. I tried carrying that torch yesterday and got blown up for it.
But I agree, this team will be the best SINCE 1991 , which was the original wording. Maybe not better, or better than 83, but the best SINCE then.
Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser"
Roger that...Same bashers every time... The sky is falling, the glass is half empty, etc etc.... I was in the stands in Atlanta in 91... "We believe" was the difference that year... If the fans grab the attitude guess what happens to the players, if a coach believes in a young man, he starts believing in himself... Marcus Arelius said it "so as a man thinketh he becomes" ...
We have the coaches, we have the players, we have the best fan base anywhere...
This is gonna be a hellava ride this year so get on the damn bus or sit at the station... Your choice...
