Do we really want BE in '13?

  • Entering the league a year early could really have a negative impact on our teams. Football, IMO, is not ready for that level of play yet and could mean Ruff and the staff getting wiped away if it turns into a bad year. Then you're bringing in a new staff and building from scratch yet again. Not to mention basketball would get slaughtered in a rebuilding year.

    I say we hold off until '14 and get our eggs in a basket before speed-rushing this thing, only to have it backfire and set us back.

  • We've been begging to get in the Big East for the last two decades. This is likely going to be our best team in the next few years....of course we should play!

    1. BCS Money for 2013
    2. More ticket sales
    3. Bigger chance to crash the national stage
    4. Gets our team's feet wet for a much easier conference in the future
    5. Our home schedule is LEGIT

  • Should we go in 2013? Yes but be prepared for a 4-8 type of season. We need to dummy down our OOC schedule and sign a much more talented recruit to be competitive. Was hoping for a 1 year window to get our house in order but if offered you have to take it

    exactly. no doubt we can score points but no doubt we can't stop a nose bleed. still, if offered to go to BE a year early we should go for the reasons WalkthePlank mentioned. maybe Ruff will realize then that he at the very least better hire a secondary coach.

  • Don't forget the potential amount of money we could see from joining in 2013 in the final year of AQ status too, that alone should push ECU to try for 2013 if it's an option at all.

  • If were not ready to enter with this team then we never will be. The problem isnt the talent we have, its the coaching. BM will be the end of Ruff.

  • Of course we should go! Why in the hell would we not want to play some original Big East teams. Not to mention the reasons that walktheplank gave. Everyone on this board is so worried about if were ready and not getting embarrassed. Well guess what, these same people are the ones who love dwelling in mediocrity. We have all wanted to get in for so long and now we have a chance not to mention it is still a watered down schedule with pitt, syracuse, and wvu gone. Man up and support the team. Who cares if we go 4-8. All that does is tell us "hey we should probably fire this horrible coaching staff!"

  • 2013 is fine with me. The level of the teams we play will be better and it would be an immediate spark in the interest of playing Cincy or UConn and UCF and USF in FB. And personally I would rather play teams like those than Louisiana Tech , North Texas, and San Antonio. I say the quicker the better before UConn or Cincy bolt for greener pastures.

  • It has zero to do with manning up Parrot. I said that if the invitation to go to the Big east is offered we need to grab it. The Big east schedule is not the problem and we win a few of those. The problem is the OCC schedule where we are lucky to go 1-3 each year. We need to dummy down our OOC schedule to be succesful now that we are moving to the Big east in either 2013 or 2014. We are going to have a tough couple of years until we bring in a higher caliber recruit and make some changes on the coaching staff.

    Yep. Ready or not we have to go if offered.

  • Yes IMO for the reasons WTP mentioned, the timing will never be perfect, and "a rising tide lifts all ships", meaning playing better competition ultimately makes a program play to that level (usually).

    This. If Ruff can handle it great. If not I prefer to find out quickly rather than see it drag out like John Bunting, Chuck Amato and Sidney Lowe alumni situations to our west.
