My letter & response from Caulton Tudor (N & O sports writer)

  • Mr. Tudor,

Why was there no coverage of ECU in the News and Observer from the C-USA media day in Irving, TX which was held on July 25? The only theory I can come up with is that NC State fans still have butthurt over the loss to the Pirates in 2010 and the N & O did not want to remind their NCSU readers of ECU in any way, shape or form. 50,000 inquiring Pirate fans minds want to know.

Also from your article today - Jeremy Grove is a rising sophomore not a rising senior.

    Thank you,

    TerrorOnTheHighSeas

    Caulton Tudor's reply:

    TerrorOnTheHighSeas,

I'm disappointed too. We no longer have the budget to travel very much, but the Associated Press didn't move much either.
It's frustrating because football is so important to ECU fans. The newspaper industry is reeling, but we still need to make a strong effort to do our best.
And to be honest, our department has changed a lot since our parent company started to get into financial trouble. We've got a skeleton staff compared to 3-4 years ago.

  • places like these on the internet are wiping out the newspaper industry. N&O is still OK in my book for all the work they're doing to dig into the UNC mess.

  • Legit reasons but we all know it was an ACC sub plot. ninja

  • Side note, which you might know, Caulton Tudor is an ECU grad.

  • To be fair, no local media (besides Myatt) went to Texas to hear Ruff and Magazu say exactly what they're going to say during the ECU media days.

  • PirateAttack, I think we will all appreciate where your heart is and the question itself is a valid one. I wish that the Pirates could get more coverage in Raleigh, Greensboro, & Charlotte.

However, when you then question the N & O and draw a conclusive link to NC State fans, it comes off terrible. That part wreaks. Also, the use of the word " butthurt " in a letter of any type makes the writer look like complete idiot, AND since you show yourself to be an ECU fan, that reflects on all ECU fans and contributes to an age-old stereotype that each of us should want to prove wrong.

Again, I am with you on what you wanted to say, and that you took the time to send it (which we should all do more of).
